Equus Expeditions

Giant Podocarpus

Equus is now proud to be starting expeditions on horseback to even further flung areas of the country – areas that are ‘off the beaten track’ – and this, in a country where even ‘tourist sites’ may be seldom visited. The first EQUUS EXPEDITIONS will take us to Gojjam –think springs of the Blue Nile - and to the seldom visited tribes of the Omo Valley’s west side.

For these expeditions we will be using local ponies with our own trained Equus guides, together with our own saddles (no dangerous wooden contraptions with loose girths that are uncomfortable for horse and rider alike). While Equus will take every precaution it possibly can to ensure safety, riders will be partaking in a challenging experience in remote places. These expeditions are for the adventurous. You will be ready to assist in saddling and horse care, setting up camp and helping out with cooking. This is for fit people who can take care of themselves, their horse and work together with others in an extreme environment.

This coming season Equus will be offering two very different trips, trips that are in many ways offer the two most extreme environments Ethiopia has to offer, the green highlands of Gojjam lying in the Blue Nile loop culminating at over 4000 meters at Afro-Alpine Mount Choke, and the western Omo Valley with its unique tribal cultures.

Equus staff is currently exploring these two locations and more information will be forthcoming in the coming months in this space and is also available on Uthiopia.com, the blog of Yves Stranger. You can also Contact us if you would like more information.
